Chasing April Snow
We knew from our weather app radar that snow fell somewhere in the upper elevations of Great Smoky Mountains National Park. We set out on a journey to find it. We started in Waynesville, NC and drove up the Blue Ridge Parkway. While pretty we found no snow. We retraced our route and headed toward Cherokee, NC still without finding our treasure. We arrived at Oconaluftee Visitor’s Center and couldn’t even find the elk. Determined, we drove towards Newfound Gap on US 441 through GSMNP. As we climbed higher you could tell something was brewing. As we approached Newfound Gap we found what we were looking for, snow. The road to Clingman’s Dome is right there at the Gap and this began the next phase of our adventure. The higher we climbed the more snow we found. Being from Coastal Alabama snow is a big deal to us. It was a great day.
